Plus500 at a glance
Plus500 is a multi-product group but its familiar global platform is primarily a leveraged CFD service. Share dealing in Europe and US futures are separate regional offers. A single global product list would be misleading.
Decision summary
- You understand leveraged CFDs and need a simple ticket.
- Your region offers the separate futures or Invest account you need.
- You will monitor spread and overnight funding.
- Your goal is default long-term ETF ownership.
- You may hold leveraged positions without a loss budget.
- You need one protection scheme across countries.
Who Plus500 is best for
The core CFD platform fits experienced short-term traders who understand leverage, financing and liquidation. Long-term investors should use Plus500 only where the separate Invest service is actually offered and compare custody, transfers, taxes and total cost with a securities broker.
Entity and country scope
Official pages list Plus500UK Ltd under FCA 509909, Plus500CY Ltd under CySEC 250/14, Plus500AU Pty Ltd under ASIC AFSL 417727, Plus500EE AS under Estonian EFSA 4.1-1/18 and other regulated entities. US futures are provided through Plus500US Financial Services LLC which is CFTC-registered and an NFA member under ID 0001398. The account agreement controls.
CFD fees and financing
The CFD service charges no dealing commission and earns mainly through the bid/ask spread. Overnight funding may be added or subtracted after the instrument cut-off. Currency conversion can be up to 0.7% of realised net profit and loss. A guaranteed stop uses a wider spread. Inactivity can cost up to USD 10 per month after at least three months without logging in.
Products by account and region
On the CFD platform shares, ETFs, options, forex and cryptocurrencies are references for CFDs rather than direct ownership. Crypto CFDs are unavailable to UK retail clients and can be restricted elsewhere. Product visibility and retail leverage depend on entity and jurisdiction.
Share dealing and US futures
Plus500 states that Plus500 Invest provides share dealing in Europe but geographic rollout is limited; availability must be confirmed during local onboarding. The US platform offers futures and options on futures through the registered futures commission merchant. It does not provide CFDs to US residents.
Regulation and investor protection
Plus500UK describes segregated client money. Eligible investment claims can fall under FSCS up to GBP 85,000. Plus500's UK page currently labels the investment category as GBP 120,000 but official FSCS states that the December 2025 increase to GBP 120,000 applies only to deposits and that other limits remain unchanged; this review therefore retains GBP 85,000 for eligible investment claims.
Plus500CY is an ICF member and its official document caps eligible retail compensation at EUR 20,000. US futures customer funds are held under futures segregation rules and are not SIPC securities accounts. Do not import one scheme to another entity.
Platform and risk controls
The web and mobile platforms are simple and include guaranteed stops on eligible instruments, alerts and a demo mode. Simplicity does not reduce leverage. Check margin, overnight time, stop-out mechanics, slippage and the retail loss warning before every funded trade.
Account operations
Plus500 generally covers its own deposit and withdrawal processing fees but banks or payment providers may charge. Minimum deposits vary. Login activity prevents the stated inactivity fee; placing a trade is not required for that purpose.
Risks and alternatives
- Calling a share CFD an owned stock.
- Ignoring overnight funding on a long holding period.
- Applying the UK or Cyprus scheme globally.
- Assuming US futures have SIPC protection.
- Using the incorrect GBP 120,000 deposit limit as investment protection.
