Before opening an account: verify fees, tax treatment, product availability, regulation and investor protection for your country. Investing involves risk, and protections vary by legal entity.
Choose this broker if
  • The broker matches your country, account type, product needs and fee sensitivity.
  • You can verify regulation, investor protection and account terms for your legal entity.

Consider alternatives if
  • You have not checked the local fee schedule, product type and investor-protection scheme.
  • You are choosing only by brand familiarity or a promotional offer.

Webull at a glance

Short verdict: Webull is a capable US active-trading platform for stocks, ETFs, approved options and paper trading. Futures and crypto use separate services. SIPC protection belongs to eligible brokerage property and must not be extended to futures or digital assets.

Editorial verdict

Webull is stronger than the simplest investing apps for charts, order tools, desktop use and practice. It suits a disciplined self-directed user better than someone seeking retirement planning or a quiet automated portfolio. The entity split is as important as the interface.

The neutral rating remains 7.8/10. Strong tools and low direct US securities commissions support the score; research depth, transfer and margin costs, active-trading risk and service fragmentation limit it.

Decision summary

  • Choose Webull if you want US market tools, paper trading and an active mobile or desktop workflow.
  • Compare alternatives if you need broad global exchanges, mutual-fund depth or advice.
  • Main rule: identify the entity and protection for each product before funding it.

Who Webull is best for

  • US self-directed stock and ETF investors.
  • Approved options users who understand assignment and expiry.
  • Eligible futures users who understand margin and that SIPC does not apply.
  • Users who value paper trading and multi-device charting.

Service and entity matrix

Webull Financial LLC is the US securities broker-dealer and a FINRA and SIPC member. Webull Futures LLC is the futures commission merchant for futures and options on futures. Webull Pay LLC, NMLS 1886762, operates a separate crypto service; current official materials identify different execution or custody providers by location.

This US profile does not make a global availability promise. Product, state, account and approval restrictions apply.

US stocks ETFs and options

Webull advertises USD 0 commission for US-listed stocks and ETFs and USD 0 commission for equity options. Regulatory, exchange, clearing and contract-specific charges can still apply. Certain index options carry a published Webull fee of USD 0.50 per contract.

Options require approval. Assignment, exercise, expiry, short positions and multi-leg strategies can create losses beyond a simple premium calculation. Fully paid securities lending changes the treatment of loaned shares and should be reviewed separately.

US futures

Webull Futures LLC offers approved accounts futures and options on futures. Current headline pricing lists USD 0.25 per micro contract, USD 0.70 per mini contract and USD 1.25 per regular contract, with exchange, regulatory and other charges potentially added.

Futures use margin and may lose more than the initial amount. Futures property is not protected by SIPC.

Webull Pay crypto

Webull moved crypto trading to a separate Webull Pay service and account. Current official materials identify Webull Pay LLC and location-dependent execution or custody relationships including Coinbase outside New York, Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands and Bakkt in those locations. Availability changes by state and asset.

Digital assets are not protected by SIPC or FDIC insurance. Spread, execution, custody, transfer and network risks remain even when a visible commission is low.

Protection and exclusions

SIPC protection for eligible Webull Financial brokerage property is up to USD 500,000 including USD 250,000 for cash under scheme rules and does not cover market losses. Webull also discloses excess arrangements. For omnibus Apex accounts the stated aggregate limit is USD 100 million with a USD 1.9 million cash sublimit per account; for fully disclosed Apex accounts the stated aggregate limit is USD 150 million with per-customer limits of USD 37.5 million for securities and USD 900,000 for cash.

Excess insurance is not unlimited and depends on the account structure. Crypto, futures and options on futures are excluded from SIPC. Loaned shares under fully paid lending require separate disclosure review.

Fees and other costs

Commission-free does not mean cost-free. Check regulatory and exchange charges, index-option fees, futures commissions, margin interest, market-data subscriptions, wires and account transfers. The current pricing and transfer pages control over a generic headline.

Platforms charts and paper trading

Webull supports web, iOS, Android and desktop platforms for the securities workflow. Charting, screeners and paper trading are major strengths. Separate services may not expose every product on every device, so platform booleans are scoped below.

Red flags to check

  • SIPC is shown as covering futures or crypto.
  • Webull Pay crypto is described as a Webull Financial security account.
  • Excess insurance is presented as an unconditional personal limit.
  • Zero commission copy hides margin, transfer or pass-through costs.
  • Options or futures appear without approval and risk conditions.
